Princess Cruises: Sun Princess

Leading a team of animators with MESMER studio Daniel worked with Princess to develop content for numerous spaces throughout the ship. The LED screens sited in the central piazza, above swimming pools, in relaxation areas and in areas of high footfall are active 24/7, requiring a program of engaging, on-brand content that changes according to the day’s activities and the location of the ship. We designed all content for these screens, starting by working with the existing brand guidelines to develop an installation piece that could run for 72hrs on-board, slowly shifting and adapting to the mood of the day, with specific states geared towards intimate cocktail evenings, sunrise sessions, and late-night parties, and broken up by ‘Glockenspiel moments’ – audiovisual animated sequences that activate the spaces, turning them into clockwork calendars, butterfly houses or magical gardens.

All of this required considerable logistical planning and liaison with the client. I worked closely with the Princess Cruises Entertainment team, with branding, and with a wide range of external directors, choreographers, production companies and vendors to make sure that all the shows could be programmed, stores and operated easily by the onboard crew. Mesmer provided technical planning, programmers and on-site crew, and off-site support over a nine-month period of development and installation.
